Product photography is one of the most important marketing tools for any brand and manufacturer that wants to develop, enter new markets and be as competitive as possible. Why am I saying this? Because your product photos are the first thing customers and business partners see in an ad, brochure, catalogue or website. Only then (if the photo is interesting) will people read the headline, and finally, if the photo and headline intrigued them, they will read the rest of the text.

In this article, we’ll look at the important components that go into the professional product photography process and the real business benefits of quality product photography.

What is the shooting process?

product photography-the process

The process of photographing your products is simple and easy, giving maximum security and peace of mind about quality for the customer.  Also, it’s designed to save you time so you can concentrate on the productivity of your business.

Here are the steps:

  • We hold an online meeting where we discuss your products. What are you looking for as a result, how will they be presented and for what purpose will the photos be used? You get advice from the photographer about style, composition, storytelling elements, colour combinations, etc. If necessary, we hold an additional meeting to finalize the concept for the vision of the products.
  • You send the products to the studio by courier. Of course, if you wish to attend the shooting session, that is also possible. But for the sake of simplicity and customer convenience, this is usually not necessary, because at this stage we have already made concrete decisions and the concept is clear.
  • The products are photographed and retouched in accordance with the client and the photographer.
  • Photos are sent to the client in the required formats and sizes. The client is satisfied and happy with the results.
  • The products are sent back to the customer.

Prices

How product photography is priced and why different services are priced differently

Product photography prices are formed based on many components.

Product photography on a white background (for an e-shop, or catalogue)

There, the price is based on 1 product in the photo, without creative and decorative elements and includes detailed processing in Photoshop. The price of these photos drops progressively as the number of photos ordered increases.

Creative and lifestyle product photography for websites and social networks and small prints.

Here the price is more complex and the following factors influence: whether there will be a live model included, what decorative and background elements you want for the creative part of the photos, what will be the concept, composition and post-shoot processing. Components require hundreds of frames, of which a dozen or fewer are sifted through to produce just one final image. Post-shoot processing also takes many hours, sometimes a full working day for one shot. This FOR EXAMPLE is creative photos with levitating elements, splashing liquids, unreal combinations of elements that look real, etc.

Advertising product photography for physical advertisements such as magazines, billboards, banners, etc.

The price of these photos is determined according to the included elements as the previous ones, but with these types of photos the processing time increases due to the large size of the photo (a large number of pixels)

It should be known that a creative photo ordered in the sizes for website and social networks cannot be used for large prints afterwards, as it is in smaller sizes. If printed, it will look poor quality and with many pixels. These photos are only suitable for digital use and small print materials. If you plan to run a physical advertising campaign, keep in mind the required size of the photos. Large photos can easily be cropped for digital needs, but small ones cannot be adapted for high-end prints.

Benefits

As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, the benefits of product photography are many and key to the success and development of a brand.  The first impression of our products comes precisely from their photos, and then everything else.  Let’s go into a little more detail about the benefits to your business when you use quality product photography:

To stand out from your competitors

Just think how many of your competitors are neglecting the power of professional product photos.  Many of them hire inexperienced photographers in the field of product photography.  You should know that if an ordinary photographer is very good at portraits or weddings, it does not mean that he/she will be good at product photography.  Be sure to check the experience, creativity and knowledge of the photographer you choose by at least looking at their portfolio and what type of photos they have.

 To expand your markets

Whether you want to increase your markets or sell successfully internationally, you will always need outstanding, good product photography.  To impress your sales partners, you need to grab them visually first.  Choose a catalogue made of quality materials with your products and of course photos that will make them say “wow”.  This will make your partners respect you and your brand and take the products and offers from you seriously.

 To sell internationally

Internationally, you must present your products with maximally attractive product photographs.  None of your competitors will present their products with low-quality, mediocre photos.  Everyone is fighting for their market share and making maximum efforts to grab the attention of customers.  Do it too.   Impress them not only with quality and packaging but also with the eye-catching, polished look of the products in the photos.

To be successful even during an economic crisis

Most businesses in times of crisis shrink. They are careful with spending and cut back on a lot of non-essential needs.  But aren’t product photos a top priority?  Well, while your competitors are pulling those feathers out of their budgets, try doing the exact opposite.  Shrinking and stalling are what?  They are a  recipe for disaster. When, if not now to take advantage and take more market shares from those who wait and stand still?  Remember that an expense that accumulates money is not an expense.  Use it skilfully and to the maximum.

There are many, many more benefits that product photography has the potential to bring to your business, but we’ll cover more of those in a separate article.

How your products can look with high-end product photography?

Depending on your industry, business and distinguishing characteristics of the brand, product photography is different.  The reason for this is that we strive to tell different things to our customers.  Here, in a few basic categories, this is how your products would look photographed creatively and professionally.

Are you curious to see more of my work and my portfolio?

Hi, I’m Diana, a product photographer based in Bulgaria.

I’m helping brands from all over Europe to visually represent themselves on the market and to increase their sales.

What makes my service stand out from my competitors?

I specialise and work only in the field of product photography. This includes a strong knowledge of creativity and styling. All of those are a must nowadays for digital and physical advertising, presentations, catalogues and so on.

I work quickly and efficiently. It’s important for me to give my customers a service they can rely on both- artistically and professionally.

My photographs have been featured several times in food magazines in the U.K, such as “Vegan food and living” and “The Hectic Vegan”.

I have also been recognised as one of the best photography students in the online platform I studied in the U.S.A.

One of the best parts of my job is when I see my customers achieving great results with the photos I’ve taken for them. That helps them to stand out more from their competition, looking more professional and more recognisable. All of that leads to more sales of course.

This is how professional photography pays for itself when used correctly with effective marketing.
